Story is interested in fiction and nonfiction. We do not currently have any restrictions on length, form, or style. We just appreciate the opportunity to read your writing. Please sends us your best work!

Guidelines

No previously published work. We translate the theme quite loosely and hope you will surprise us with perspectives we hadn't considered. Send previously unpublished work, though we do like republishing work we love that speaks to the theme. Please let us know where and when the work first appeared in your cover letter.

Simultaneous submissions are fine. Inform us promptly if your piece is accepted elsewhere.

Stories and essays should be typed, double-spaced, and paginated, with your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address on the first page, title on subsequent pages. We do not have a maximum word count for print issues, though do keep in mind that excessively long pieces will have to work extra hard to keep us excited. 

We currently are NOT reading poetry.
